what was first used as a hoop in basketball
The first “hoops” used in basketball were actually peach baskets. When basketball was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, he attached these peach baskets to the elevated track in a gymnasium. The baskets had no holes at the bottom, so after each score, the game would have to stop so someone could retrieve the ball manually.
These peach baskets were the original goals, and they were later replaced by metal hoops with nets, which allowed the ball to fall through and the game to continue without interruption.
